Picking yourself (and your horse) apart and never feeling good enough is keeping you stuck in your riding.
It's affecting your ability to enjoy your ride AND your success.
It's keeping you from being the best rider you can be.
It's keeping your horse from performing it's best.
How do I know?
I've spent hours and hours in the saddle criticizing myself and my horses, spinning around in circles getting no where.
“I always mess things up.”
"Why can't I ride as well as they do?"
“I never seem to get better no matter how hard I try.”
“I’m so stupid for making that mistake.”
"Everyone must think I suck at this."
"I'm not good enough to ride at this level."
If so, I can confidently say that you’ve spent way too much time putting yourself down, when what you really want is to find joy and fun in your riding again. Why can I confidently say this? Well my friend, I have been right where you are.
Beyond Perfect: Strategies for Equestrians to Manage Perfectionism and Silence the Inner Critic
A 80 minute recorded training for riders who struggle with feeling “not good enough,”
those haunted by self doubt and those with a harsh inner critic.
It is a common misconception that a harsh inner critic and perfectionism helps us to be better riders
but in reality it only gets in the way.
This training will help you understand this misconception better and
aid in helping you find a new way to stay motivated as you strive toward your goals!
The tools you will learn will not only help you with your riding, but in all areas of your life where
you feel self doubt or deal with feeling like you need to be perfect.
If you question your abilities and yourself as a rider, then this is for you.
80 minute Training Replay with Clinical & Sport Psychologist Dr. Caroline Vetter, Psy.D.
Caroline will discuss why the surge of self doubt happens, what causes this sort of response and how to manage it so that you can find joy and fun in your riding once more! You will leave this training with a deeper understanding of your inner critic and perfectionism, why they are not helpful in the long term, how to interrupt them when they get loud, and tools to help keep them at bay.

I’m Janelle and I consider myself a recovering perfectionist. Trying to be perfect has ruined many rides in my life. I would catch myself picking away at my horses and at myself and we would all end the ride miserable.
The struggle with striving for perfection is that we never reach it. Now that I’m “recovering” (some days are always better than others) I can enjoy my horses a lot more, I can stay focused on what’s most important (instead of nit picking on allll the things), and my horses and I are both performing a lot better with a lot less tension and a lot more harmony.
I see this same struggle showing up with a lot of my equestrian clients - not trying exercises because they aren’t sure if they’re doing it right, not trying different things with their horses because they don’t want to mess up, nit picking every little move that they make. Yes, we want to optimize the way that you use your body to ride, but I know first hand that striving for perfection isn’t helpful. As a “recover-ie” I don’t feel like I have the best tools to help those of you who struggle like I do so I’ve called in reinforcements. I’m very excited to have Dr. Caroline join us and give us all some tools to manage our perfectionism and inner critic!
